Trim
Trim size is the final size of a printed piece after it has been trimmed from its page. Trimming is executed along crop marks that show where to cut. Crop marks are used by commercial printers for creating bleeds where an image or color on the page needs to extend all the way to the edge of the paper.
Pixels
Pixels are square-shaped dots that make a digital raster image. The more pixels an image has, the higher its resolution.

Crop
A designer can cut out or crop unnecessary parts of an image to improve framing, highlight a specific subject or alter the image’s aspect ratio.
Reasons to Crop:
- You need to strengthen your image.
- You need a panorama/square/horizontal/vertical and you have a vertical/square/horizontal/ panorama.
- You were too far away and all that negative (empty space) is too much space to rationalize as “artistic”.
- You want to isolate what will become a great image out of a larger image frame.
- Your file is just too large for its intended use.
- You like using a prime lens instead of a zoom, even if you have to crop later.
- You need to fit a specific size or height to width ratio.
- You need to remove extraneous clutter from your image.
Stock photo/art
Stock photos and art are licensed images created by a third party. Using stock images saves on the cost of having a professional photo shoot. Check out some websites to get good, free stock imagery.

What is allowed?

What is not allowed?

- Don’t sell unaltered copies of a photo, e.g. don’t sell it as a stock photo, poster, print or on a physical product without adding any value.
- Don’t imply endorsement of your product by people or brands on the image.
- Don’t redistribute or sell the photos on other stock photo or wallpaper platforms.
